Finding Yourself by Letting Go

0:00|0:00

This episode explores why real personal growth often comes from subtraction rather than adding more, as the hosts discuss letting go of old narratives, familiar discomfort, and performance-driven choices. They also share three daily alignment practices—a morning sound audit, a weekly friction check-in, and an evening purpose prompt—to help listeners stay connected to their core.

Chapter 1

The Paradox of Finding Yourself through Subtraction

Jordan Sterling

We always think of personal development as adding stuff. Stacking up new achievements, starting a massive morning routine, downloading another productivity app... it is always about more.

Ava Brooks

Right, right. We treat our minds like a construction site. But what if the real work is actually demolition? Like peeling back the layers instead of adding more?

Jordan Sterling

Demolition. I love that. Because we carry around all this extra baggage, social expectations, old narratives, fear, and we think we need to build a fortress over it. But the whole philosophy of PTT Music is really about stripping all that away to find the core.

Ava Brooks

It is, but stripping it away can be psychologically terrifying for some people, Jordan. It is painful because many people get so attached to their struggles. They literally cling to uncomfortable situations just because they are familiar. They choose the safety of known discomfort over the vulnerability of genuine change.

Jordan Sterling

Yes! The familiar discomfort. Many would rather stay in a rut they know than step into the unknown. They hold onto old versions of themselves like security blankets, even when they are suffocating them.

Ava Brooks

It is so true. I actually had this moment recently, listening to the PTT Music track, I Found You. It is this incredibly raw, stripped down song. Just simple instrumentation and a pure vocal, with no massive production or heavy electronic layers. And it just bypassed everything. My logical brain, my defenses, all those layers I build up to convince myself I am fine.

Jordan Sterling

I Found You. The name itself is the perfect metaphor for this subtraction process, isn't it? Sometimes we have to silence the noise of what the world expects us to be just to finally find the truth. What did listening to that track make you realize about yourself?

Ava Brooks

It made me realize I was performing. I was chasing a creative path that was not mine, just because it looked good to other people. The music just cut right through the noise. It was like an emotional tuning fork, aligning me back to what actually matters.

Jordan Sterling

That is the power of sound. It finds the resonance. And that is where things like elastic resilience and adapting to change come in. They are not armor we put on to fight the world. They are tools to keep us flexible. So we can bend, let the noise slide off, and let our true selves emerge without breaking under external pressure.

Chapter 2

Three Daily Alignments to Move Closer to Your Core

Jordan Sterling

So, okay, how do we practically do this? How do we practice subtraction and alignment every day? Because it is a daily practice.

Ava Brooks

It really is. And the first step is what we can call the first hour sound audit. Ten to fifteen minutes right when you wake up.

Jordan Sterling

Ten to fifteen minutes. No emails? No immediate scrolling?

Ava Brooks

Absolutely no scrolling. Instead of flooding your brain with external panic, you put on a specific, rhythm driven track. Something that grounds your nervous system. You start your day proactive, not reactive.

Jordan Sterling

A sound audit. I love that. The second one is a weekly friction check in. At the end of every week, you look at one specific setback or moment of self doubt. And you ask yourself: did I bend like an elastic band, or did I resist and crack?

Ava Brooks

Ooh, the elastic band question. That is powerful. Because cracking means we are resisting reality. Bending means we adapt and keep our integrity.

Jordan Sterling

Exactly. It is about monitoring your adaptability so you do not burn out. And the third step is an evening purpose alignment prompt. Just one question before you sleep: did my choices today reflect my core values, or was I performing for someone else's approval?

Ava Brooks

Performing for approval. That is the ultimate layer we have to subtract. When you ask that, you bridge the gap between who you are and what you did today. It makes growth a series of tiny, daily micro decisions.

Jordan Sterling

It really does. This isn't a one time fix, Ava. It's a continuous soundtrack we choose to play in our lives to keep us aligned.

Ava Brooks

Exactly. It keeps us moving closer to who we really are.
