How Intentional Music Builds Focus, Confidence, and Momentum
Jordan Sterling and Ava Brooks explore how intentional music can fuel focus, confidence, and creative momentum in everyday life. Drawing on neuroscience research from McGill University and Harvard Medical School, they look at why purposeful sound moves us, then bring it to life through three PTT Music songs: "Most High", "Looking for Love", and "Dust Settles Faith Stands".

Why Cold State Courage Fails in Hot State Moments
Jordan Sterling
Welcome to the PTT Music Podcast! I'm Jordan Sterling, joined as always by Ava Brooks. Whether you're returning to hang out with us or joining our community for the very first time, we're so glad you're here. The mission and purpose of the PTT Music Podcast is all about going behind the music to explore inspiration, creativity, and positive influence. We believe music is far more than entertainment. It's a powerful force that awakens emotion, strengthens the mind, encourages perseverance, and connects people through shared experiences. Today we're diving into how intentional music acts as a catalyst for focus, confidence, and creative momentum in our everyday lives.
Ava Brooks
A warm welcome to all our listeners, and especially to anyone tuning in for the first time! I'm Ava Brooks, and I'm thrilled you're spending this time with us. The belief Jordan just shared, that music is far more than entertainment, is at the very core of what we do here. On this podcast, we explore the stories, emotions, and creative journeys behind PTT Music releases, showing how purposeful sound can genuinely influence our daily habits and mindset. Sound is one of the most immediate tools we have for elevating our state of mind. When you're building toward a goal, starting a creative project, or simply striving to show up with excellence in your daily routine, the musical backdrop you choose plays an essential role in your success and clarity.
Jordan Sterling
It really does. In fact, neuroscience helps explain exactly why this happens in our bodies and minds. In a landmark 2011 study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, Doctor Valorie Salimpoor and Doctor Robert Zatorre of McGill University, along with their colleagues, used brain scanning to show that dopamine is released in the striatum at peak emotional moments of music listening. The caudate was more involved during anticipation, and the nucleus accumbens during the peak experience of pleasure. Then in 2019, Doctor Laura Ferreri of the University of Barcelona, along with Doctor Ernest Mas Herrero and Doctor Robert Zatorre of the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University, and their team, published a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, titled Dopamine Modulates the Reward Experiences Elicited by Music. Their double blind experiment with 27 participants showed that dopamine plays a causal role in both musical pleasure and our motivation to seek out music.
Ava Brooks
That McGill University research is so illuminating because it shows our brains are practically wired for musical reward! Along with that, a March 2024 feature in Harvard Medicine Magazine by Allison Eck, titled How Music Resonates in the Brain, explains that music lights up nearly all of the brain. Doctor David Silbersweig, the Stanley Cobb Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, who leads neuroimaging research on how brain networks work, says we seem to be very much tuned for music. The article describes music engaging our emotional circuits, our memory, and our motor systems all at once. That is why purposeful sound is such an incredible catalyst for mental clarity and focus.
Jordan Sterling
That biological foundation makes intentional listening an essential practice, which is why the PTT Music catalog is created with such clear purpose. Take, for example, the official track "Most High". "Most High" is a reminder of who the Most High is, and that reminder gives us confidence in everything we do. The beat is driving and intentional, like a heartbeat. When you listen to it, you're encouraged to hold your head high, trust your preparation, and move forward with purpose and enthusiasm.
Ava Brooks
"Most High" is such a powerful anthem for cultivating inner strength! When we're reminded of who the Most High is, it gives us confidence in everything we do, from our work to our relationships to our creative projects. That beat pulses like a heartbeat, steady and intentional, and when that dopamine release pairs with uplifting lyrics, your mind naturally aligns with courage and authority, eliminating second guessing and driving you straight toward purposeful action.
Jordan Sterling
That's so true, Ava. And when you explore further across the catalog, each track brings another layer of inspiration to our lives. Another song that brings immense heart and motivation into any space is "Looking for Love". What makes "Looking for Love" stand out so brightly is how it balances emotional depth with uplifting, forward driving rhythm. When you bring the soul and feel of "Looking for Love" into your daily routine, it creates an atmosphere of warm harmony. It reminds us that genuine passion, human connection, and empathy are core pillars of true fulfillment and long term success.
Ava Brooks
"Looking for Love" really opens up the conversation around why we create in the first place. Creativity is ultimately about connecting hearts and sharing authentic human experiences. When we listen to songs like "Looking for Love", it reminds us that our work, our art, and our relationships thrive when they're rooted in genuine care and positive intention. As Doctor Patrick Whelan of Harvard Medical School explains in that same Harvard Medicine Magazine feature, music puts everyone in the same emotional space, allowing us to bring our best self into every room we enter and every project we touch.
Jordan Sterling
It grounds you while lifting your spirit at the same time! And then when you pivot to a powerful track like "Dust Settles Faith Stands", you experience an incredible message of steadfast resolve and lasting endurance. "Dust Settles Faith Stands" speaks directly to staying grounded regardless of circumstance. When the busy noise of the world quiets down, what remains is your core conviction, your character, and your faith. Every release in the PTT Music lineup is crafted with that intention: to build people up and reinforce their inner foundation.
Ava Brooks
"Dust Settles Faith Stands" is such a timeless statement. It reminds us that temporary challenges pass, but our vision, values, and faith remain unshakable. When we select music with intention, we actively shape our environment to support our growth, our mental well being, and our spiritual strength. Filling your daily routine with positive, purposeful sound ensures that you're constantly fed by truth, energy, and inspiration rather than random distraction.
Jordan Sterling
That's the beauty of Music With Purpose, Sound With Impact. It's not just about background audio; it's about choosing soundscapes that nourish your mind and propel you toward your highest potential. When you build a playlist centered around songs like "Most High", "Looking for Love", and "Dust Settles Faith Stands", you're creating a daily environment where focus, passion, and faith flourish naturally.
Ava Brooks
And that atmosphere impacts everyone around you too. When you operate from a place of clarity and inspiration, it radiates to your family, your teammates, and your community. Great music helps us show up as the best version of ourselves every single day. It keeps our eyes focused on the bigger picture and gives us the energy to keep building, growing, and serving others.
Jordan Sterling
It truly is a transformative ripple effect. By staying locked into purposeful sound, we stay aligned with our goals and carry a positive influence everywhere we go. Every melody and lyric becomes an active part of our personal journey toward excellence and fulfillment.
Ava Brooks
It's all about celebrating the creative process, staying locked into your unique calling, and enjoying every single step of the journey along the way.
