Swerve Past Disappointment and Turn Detours Into Momentum
This episode explores how disappointment can become a dead end when we cling to the original plan, and how the planning fallacy shapes our expectations. The hosts introduce a practical Pivot Audit, plus simple steps for turning setbacks into momentum with quick action and a more flexible mindset.
Chapter 1
The Disappointment Trap and the Swerve Mindset
Ava Brooks
So I was looking at this plan I had laid out for the new video series and I mean I had every single detail scheduled down to the actual hour. It, it, it was perfect. And then the first filming day, the venue completely flooded. Like water everywhere. Just a total mess. And my first reaction was just this heavy, sinking feeling of failure because the reality did not match the picture in my head.
Jordan Sterling
Oh man, the flooded venue. That is a classic. It reminds me of what psychologists call the planning fallacy. Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote about how we naturally underestimate the time and the complications of basically everything we plan. We create this clean, straight line in our minds, but life is just never a straight line, is it?
Ava Brooks
No, not at all. And when we hit that curve, sometimes we crash because we are so attached to that specific picture instead of the actual purpose behind it. We think, okay, if it does not happen exactly this way, then it is ruined. But that is where the mental block happens.
Jordan Sterling
Exactly. And that is why I keep coming back to the song "Swerve." If you listen to how that track is built, it does not just stay in one steady groove. It has these sharp, driving dynamic shifts. The rhythm literally forces you to pivot, to adjust your posture, to move with the change rather than resisting it. It is like sonic training for your brain to stop freezing when things go sideways.
Ava Brooks
Yes, exactly. The music has this physical momentum to it. It tells you that a shift in direction is not the end of the road. It is just a different turn. It is about building that agility so that when the roadblock appears, you do not just park there and cry. You swerve.
Chapter 2
Tactical Swerving Reclaiming Momentum After a Detour
Jordan Sterling
Right. So how do we actually do that in real life without just getting overwhelmed by the disappointment? We need what I call a Pivot Audit. Instead of asking why did this happen to me, which just keeps you looping in frustration, you have to ask a better question. What does this detour now make possible that the original plan did not?
Ava Brooks
Oh, I love that shift. It completely changes the energy from passive victim to active creator. When my venue flooded, it actually forced us to shoot outdoors, and the natural lighting turned out ten times better than the artificial studio lights would have been anyway.
Jordan Sterling
See? That is a perfect swerve. So let us give everyone three practical action steps to make this mindset a daily habit. First, you need to establish a twenty four minute pivot window. Give yourself a strict limit to feel the frustration, to vent to yourself, to be annoyed, but once those twenty four minutes are up, you commit to closing the door on the disappointment and looking forward.
Ava Brooks
Yes, we need that time to process, but we cannot let it turn into a permanent residence. Then step two is to run a swerve audit. Grab a piece of paper and write down three unexpected options or alternatives that were created specifically because of this disruption. Force your brain to find the hidden opportunities in the new landscape.
Jordan Sterling
And finally, step three is to set a micro action anchor. Put on a high tempo, motivating track like "Swerve" to change your physical energy, and commit to just one immediate five minute action that builds new momentum. It does not have to be huge. Just write one email, make one phone call, or search for one new option. Just move.
Ava Brooks
It is all about reclaiming that momentum. When you take action, even a tiny one, you prove to yourself that you are still in control of your journey, even if the road looks different than you expected.
Jordan Sterling
Remember, a disappointment is never the final word unless you let it stop your progress. Every time you choose to swerve, you are actively choosing growth over defeat.
Ava Brooks
That is so true. So the next time a plan falls apart or an obstacle gets in your way, do not let it shake your belief in where you are going. Take your twenty four minute pivot window, run your swerve audit, put on a powerful track like "Swerve" to shift your energy, and take that first micro step. You have everything inside you to turn any detour into your greatest breakthrough.
Jordan Sterling
Yes, you really do. Your journey is far from over, and the best chapters of your story might be waiting on the exact detour you did not plan for.
